Ballet Under the Stars
North Lake in Estrella will be the picturesque background for a free outdoor ballet on Friday, Sept. 14 – one of only four Ballet Under the Stars performances, and the only one in the West Valley.
For the seventh year in a row, the city of Goodyear, Ballet Arizona and Estrella by Newland Communities have partnered to bring the ballet to residents where they can come early, bring blankets and lawn chairs to reserve a seat, and enjoy festivities that include face painting, art exhibits and entertainment, and food available for purchase.
Complete with a stage, lighting, and costumes, Ballet Under the Stars draws a large crowd of individuals who, in many cases, are experiencing the elegance and beauty of live ballet for the first time.
During the performance, students from Estrella Mountain Elementary School will have the opportunity to dance alongside the professionals as they showcase what they have learned from Class Act, one of Ballet Arizona’s education and outreach programs. Mayor Georgia Lord also will address the crowd before the ballet performance.

About the Arts in Goodyear
Ballet Under the Stars is just one of the many ways that the city of Goodyear engages the community with opportunities to experience the arts. Adding to the sense of community, public art is on display throughout the city and work by local artists is often on display throughout the city’s public spaces. To enhance the quality of life, Goodyear hosts a series of special events to engage the public in the arts such as: Lakeside Music Fest; Chalk Art in the Park; Hot Coffee Art Lectures; the Library Lecture Series; and the Mayor’s Select Art Contest. With a commitment to furthering art education, the city partners with school districts to cultivate awareness and appreciation of the arts in classrooms.
The Arts and Culture Commission was established in 2006 by the Goodyear City Council to create a distinct sense of place and cultural destination by integrating art into public spaces. Goodyear’s public art program promotes arts and cultural excellence in coordination with the private sector and other governmental agencies to increase awareness of the contributions of arts and culture to our economy and quality of life. The Goodyear Arts & Culture Commission provides leadership in developing a community identity through the arts that embraces, celebrates and unites all of our diverse histories, beliefs, cultures, and aspirations.
