The Sonoran Desert is home to over 350 beautiful species of birds. For the lucky residents of Estrella, some of the best bird watching in Arizona can happen right outside your door.
In the back yard of the Estrella community is the Estrella Mountain Regional Park, one of Arizona's best birding destinations. The site's vast array of hiking paths and trails, towering trees, picnic tables, and playgrounds make bird watching in Arizona an event the whole family can enjoy.
The tall Mesquite Bosque and other large trees are enormous attractions for various birds from all over. Estrella is a lively spot come winter and migration time and a pleasant place to visit and observe birds in action.
One of the more striking birds you might encounter when visiting the Park is the vibrant reddish-orange Vermilion Flycatcher. They're particularly fond of the Mesquite Bosque trees here in Estrella. Another is the Black-tailed Gnatcatcher, a tiny, energetic songbird that often finds comfort in dry, desert lands among cactus and creosote bushes. You might also get a glimpse of the Rock Wren. Still, you'll have to look closely - as their name suggests, they tend to hide out in rock crevices, bobbing up and down in a sort of game of peek-a-boo. Their pale brown coloring often acts as camouflage with the desert landscape.
Bird watching in Arizona makes for a great pastime with family and friends. If you love being one with nature, Estrella is undoubtedly the place for you. Choose from some of the best bird-watching trails in Estrella Mountain Regional Park or throughout the community. Take in the beautiful scenery, enjoy the changing seasons, and scan the trees for some of the most beautiful avian wildlife our desert has to offer on over 50 miles of trails in Estrella.
