5 Questions to Ask Your Potential Real Estate Agent

Purchasing a home is one of the largest financial decisions you’ll make. Estrella by Newland offers a variety of new homes from more than 12 distinguished home builders as well as custom home sites – that’s a lot of options to choose from! If you decide to use a real estate agent, it’s important to select someone who is qualified and can guide you through making these decisions. As you meet potential agents, here are few questions to ask to help you select the right agent for you.

“What is your background in the real estate industry?”
Think of your first meeting with a real estate agent like a job interview. To find the perfect fit, you have to ask the tough questions. Ask about their real estate background, how long they’ve been in the business, and how many real estate transactions they handled in the past 12 months. This will give you an understanding of the extent of their expertise and if your expectations will be met. Getting to know each other’s backgrounds can also help you foresee what type of relationship you will have with your agent. You’ll be spending quite a bit of time with each other, so being able to develop a solid and trusting relationship is key.

“What is your preferred communication method?”
When searching for homes, it’s important to work with a real estate agent who you share a similar communication method with. Ask when and how they will keep in touch with you. If the agent primarily connects with you through email, but you don’t check yours often, this could be a problem. Another potential struggle might be when the agent is available. If the agent is only available during the hours you’re busy at work, it will be difficult to find a home in a timely fashion. Find a real estate agent with whom you will be able to have a clear, communicative relationship.

“Which neighborhoods do you primarily work in?”
Agents will often specialize in a specific area of town. Ask the agent where they have experience working and which areas they are most familiar with. Most agents are willing to work in unfamiliar territory, but it might be beneficial to find someone who specializes in the area where you want to purchase a home. If you’re considering home options in Estrella, look for a real estate agent who has previously helped home shoppers in the Estrella community.

“How many clients are you currently working with?”
This may seem intrusive but asking how many clients the agent is working with is a fair question. This helps confirm you’ll receive an adequate amount of the agent’s time and effort. Also, check if the agent works solo or as part of a team. You’ll want to know if there’s a support team working with the agent or if they are your only contact.

“What is your ratio of buyers to sellers?”
Often times, many real estate agents work more with buyers or sellers. This doesn’t take away from their knowledge or expertise, but it may be beneficial to work with someone who has experience on both sides and can assist with every aspect of the transaction. If you’re trying to sell your current house while buying a new home, your real estate agent will be able to help navigate what can sometimes be a complicated process.
