Architectural Styles Decoded

Thinking of tackling a new build for your next home? There is a lot to be excited about when customizing a house. Building from the ground up gives you the ability to select the design and floor plan that best fits your lifestyle. In the Estrella master-planned community in Goodyear, builders will often provide a series of architectural exterior elevation styles for clients to choose from for each floor plan offered.

In case you’re wondering what elevations are, they are architectural drawings that show the exterior style options for your home offered by each builder. You can see an example of this by scrolling through elevations offered of an available home plan in Estrella here. This is how the builder best communicates the design options to you. Floor plans are meant to give you the flow of your home while elevations are meant to give you the “feel” of your home. Here’s a look at some of the most common architectural styles found in Estrella.

Craftsman
An American favorite, the Craftsman style was born out of the British Arts and Crafts movement and was a marked shift away from the previously popular Victorian style home. Craftsman elevations typically feature column-supported porches, wide overhangs, detailed trim work, and wood siding.

Spanish
Evolving from traditional “haciendas,” Spanish homes often feature large courtyards, square pillars, and arched doorways and windows. Primarily stucco exteriors with stonework or brick accents help mark this type of home.

Mediterranean
Similar to Spanish homes, Mediterranean styles favor repeated arches and decorative accents such as iron railing and stonework. Many of these homes will include large windows and plenty of space for outdoor entertainment.

Desert Prairie
Frank Lloyd Wright fans will recognize the prairie style’s long, flat roofs and repeating horizontal lines. These homes often showcase stone or brick exteriors, hip roofs with extended overhands and regular rows of windows.

Because Estrella’s builders offer different style options with numerous signature floor plans, your dream home is just a few elevations away. Click here for more information about new build opportunities in the Estrella community.
