Give Back in Goodyear

This time of year it’s common to reflect on what we are thankful for, and that spirit of Thanksgiving often leads to wanting to give back. If you find yourself looking for volunteer opportunities near Estrella, consider one of these local organizations.

Honey Foundation
Based in Goodyear, Estrella partners with the Honey Foundation for the Water Walk 5K. The organization’s mission is to spread kindness, compassion, and generosity by promoting the concept of “paying it forward” and offering an interactive way to track good deeds. This is a great opportunity to get the whole family involved and kids can track acts of kindness – everything from helping a friend or sibling with homework to holding the door for someone – by sharing on the Honey Foundation’s online “Deed Feed.” Learn more at www.honeyfoundation.org.

Goodyear Gives Back
The City of Goodyear’s Volunteer Services department gives residents the chance to work alongside city staff and fellow volunteers to give back to their community. Examples of the type of work include ushering during Spring Training games, working special events, assisting with clerical work, and acting as an educational ambassador. To learn more, visit www.goodyearaz.gov or call 623-882-7807.

Up By Their Bootstraps
This nonprofit is dedicated to giving a “Hand Up, Not a Hand Out” by providing veterans and their families with transportation, temporary housing, home repairs, family support during deployment, and employment services. Up By Their Bootstraps focuses on providing help in whatever way veterans may need, which allows them to have a place for all types of volunteers – from home maintenance and office support to food pantry work, tutoring, and more. Details can be found at upbytheirbootstraps.org.

These are just three examples of the many different ways to give back this season, and throughout the year. For more information about available opportunities, visit the website of your favorite nonprofit organizations or check volunteermatch.org to find the right fit for you and your family.
