Summer Boredom Busters

Summer break is well under way and kids everywhere are declaring “We’re bored!” Fear not –these summer boredom busters will keep the kids busy and your sanity intact.

Get In The Kitchen
Cooking or baking with your child is a great way to teach them life skills while also having some fun. Try making a family recipe that has been passed down for generations and you’ll create memories to last a lifetime. You can also check out some of these simple baking recipes for kids.
This activity is perfect for older kids who can follow instructions and be a little more independent. Don’t tell them this, but baking is also a great way to sneak in a math lesson and practice fractions!

Play With Slime
Kids of all ages are fascinated with slime. There are countless variations, including glitter gak, bubble slime and more. Amazon has a wide variety of slime kits and pre-made selections to make summer crafts a cinch. For the adventurous parent, add to the fun by making your own glitter gak or slime at home where kids can choose their colors and add-ins for a customized look.
It is important to know that slime is not easily removed from carpets and fabrics. Exercise care when choosing where and when to play with your gooey creations. If you find yourself in a sticky situation, here’s one slime removal solution which uses traditional household items like white vinegar and club soda.

Visit Your Local Library
Summer tends to make everyone a little restless so don’t be afraid to mix things up and vary activities from day to day. Most public libraries offer free events for kids of all ages. For those in Estrella, the Goodyear Library has weekly family story time, baby time, teen leadership, and family movie days. Check out the full schedule for upcoming events. If you’re not sure where your local library is, utilize this website to find a library near you.

Try A Summer Movie Program
Summer is a great time for going to the movies, but it can get a little expensive depending on the size of your family. Luckily, Harkins Theatres conveniently located at Estrella Falls mall just 12 miles from Estrella offers summer movie programs for kids and families during the summer months. Purchase season passes or individual tickets for discounted showings all summer long.

Build An Indoor Laser Maze
Get creative with your kids and encourage them to use their imaginations with a DIY hallway laser maze at home. Using anything from tape to yarn to streamers, simply hang the “laser” material of your choice in a zig-zag pattern across the hallway. For a little added fun, put a fun prize at the end of the maze. First one to make it through without touching a laser, wins!

Summertime is made for spending time with family, so be sure to have some fun while you’re at it! For those that live in Estrella’s master-planned community, check out the many amenities that will have your kids trying something new every week.
