A Quick Guide to Schools in Estrella
For younger children, residents have access to a variety of preschools and afterschool programs within the community. For those looking for higher education opportunities, numerous community colleges and universities are nearby, including Arizona State University, Estrella Mountain Community College, Grand Canyon University, and Rio Salado Community College to name a few.
For families that fall in between preschool and higher education, there are three excelling schools to guide students through their formative years – Westar Elementary (K-8), Estrella Mountain Elementary (K-8), and Estrella Foothills High School (9-12). Here’s a quick breakdown of each school and their educational focus.
Westar Elementary School (K-8)

Estrella Mountain Elementary School (K-8)

Mission Statement: The mission of Estrella Mountain Elementary School is to enhance the growth of each child beyond the standards fostered by an educational environment which develops inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring children who help to create a peaceful world by embracing intercultural respect.
Estrella Mountain Elementary is an International Baccalaureate Signature School (IB) for kindergarten through eighth grade. The school was recently awarded the Arizona Educational Foundation’s A+ School of Excellence award – the only statewide award program that recognizes schools for achieving overall excellence. The IB curriculum focuses on building well-rounded individuals in all aspects of their lives, not just education. Estrella Foothills High School has been recognized for educational excellence, its ability to meet the needs of its students, and for utilizing the block schedule system. The high school is also known for its award-winning robotics team and state-of-the-art performing arts center.
