Resident Spotlight: Cain & Gabriella Have Talent

Get ready, Estrella! Cain and Gabriella Gonzalez will impress you as they warm up the crowd at the “December ‘63” concert on Friday, December 15. The Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons tribute concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. at Estrella Foothills High School in the Performing Arts Center. Cain and Gabriella will perform just prior to the show.

Cain and Gabriella were awarded the special pre-show performance and a beautiful trophy as their First Place prize for winning the community’s first-annual “Estrella’s Got Talent” competition. The duo sang “Earth Angel” at the highly successful event. Due to the exposure they received from that performance, the father-daughter team are recognized and stopped regularly around the community.

Not surprisingly, Cain grew up in a musical family. When he was young, he learned to play the drums, bass guitar and the accordion. However, his favorite instrument is the acoustic guitar. When Gabriella was only 3 years-old, her father recalls her singing “Old McDonald” repeatedly. He noticed her vibrato and that she sang on key quite often. To see if she could sing all notes on the spectrum, he experimented by playing different notes on his guitar. He was very excited when Gabriella repeated the notes on key without his encouragement or guidance!

At 6 or 7 years old, Gabriella began performing in Westar Elementary School talent shows. She continued singing in the annual competitions through eighth grade. Her senior year, she performed without Cain. Other performances include Symphony Under the Stars, weddings, praise and worship at their family church, singing for fundraisers that have benefitted the homeless in Phoenix, a benefit at Angel's Diner, the National Anthem at Foothills High School, and most recently, the first place performance at “Estrella's Got Talent.”

“We are very grateful for the support we’ve received from the Estrella community, and from friends and family. Thank you,” Cain and Gabriella said.

Gabriella’s next goal is to learn to play the guitar from her dad. She really wants to be a strong player to perform with and without him at various events. Her hobbies are basketball, volleyball, swimming, shopping with friends and playing the guitar. Soon she’d like to create her own YouTube channel.
