Mastering The Signature Holes at the Golf Club of Estrella
The Golf Course of Estrella is consistently ranked as one of the best public courses in the state, and we couldn’t agree more! The Nicklaus Design course offers spectacular views and a day on the links that will be fun, yet challenging, to golfers of all levels.
Our golf pros have broken down their three favorite holes with tips to enjoy what are considered among the best finishing holes in the Valley.
Hole #16 – The Arroyo
The key to this long 605-yard uphill par 5 is simply to keep your tee shot in play. The drive requires a shot over a natural desert wash to a relatively wide landing area protected on the right by bunkers. A magnificent rocky wash separates the first and second landing areas, but is far enough away, allowing the golfers, depending on their level of play, to lay up anywhere from 100 to 200 yards from the green.
The truly heroic golfer may choose to try to reach the greenside approach fairway over the wash flanking the green. This would leave an easy approach shot to the green, which is situated on a left to right axis and is protected on the right by a deep gaping bunker.
Hole #17 - Grand Consequence
The signature hole at Golf Club of Estrella, this 194-yard par 3 is set into the rocky slopes of the surrounding terrain. Bunkers short left and long right protect the ball from glancing into the surrounding desert. Shots hit to the right should feed down to the green and provide a few birdie opportunities at this spectacular Sonoran desert hole.
Hole #18 – Evening Star
Hitting from the rocky ridge line and admiring this 437-yard par 4 from the tees brings the golf experience to a wonderful grand finale. The strategy here is simple: drive left and clear the cross bunkers to the high fairway for the best angle onto the medium-sized green. A tee shot to the right requires a full carry to the green which is protected by a deep grass low area and a pot bunker. The hole benches softly into the mountainside and provides the player with scenic panoramic views across Estrella. A truly memorable finish.
If you need a few more tips, The Golf Club of Estrella offers a variety of clinics and private lessons for all ages and level of play. The important thing to remember is go out, take in the scenic play and enjoy your round of golf no matter how experienced you are as a golfer.
