What’s in Your Bag: Lake Edition
Whether packing up for a day boating on North Lake or picnicking off the shore of South Lake, below are a few must-have items that will help ensure Estrella residents enjoy the 72 acres of community lakes.
Safety first – when you hit up the Yacht Club for some sailing or paddling, a life jacket will be provided for you, but feel free to bring your own if you have one.
This one is a no-brainer in Arizona. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, a minimum SPF 30 is a must, even on cloudy days. And be sure you select a product that offers broad-spectrum protection – that means is protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Slather up 15 minutes before you head outside and drop it in your bag as you’ll need to reapply every couple of hours.
Another no-brainer. It’s super important to stay hydrated while enjoying Estrella’s nearly 300 days of sunshine. A good rule of thumb is to follow the 8x8 rule by drinking at least eight, eight-ounce glasses of water per day.
You should be able to stay nice and dry out on North Lake, but just in case, it’s a good idea to store your valuables in a watertight bag. There are lots of fun options on Amazon, but a Ziploc bag also works wonders. Consider this option when visiting the beach at South Lake to keep your valuables sand-free.
Sure you know sunglasses are important to protect your eyes, but what’s the big deal with polarized lenses? Because they have a special coating, polarized glasses help reduce glare, which can be especially brutal when sunlight is reflected off water, like at the lake.
Did you know that both North and South Lake are stocked for catch-and-release fishing? Residents must bring their own fishing gear when they come to spend the day relaxing lakeside.
If you’re heading to South Lake don’t forget to pack a picnic basket – this is among the best places to dine alfresco in Estrella. Picnic tables, grills, volleyball courts and, a playground make this the perfect destination for spending a day on the beach.
The variety of activities offered at Estrella’s lakes provide both serenity and adventure for residents. Be sure to share a pic the next time you set sail or stroll lakeside by tagging it with @EstrellaAZLife or #LifeInEstrella.
