5 Creative Ways to Turn 2015 Memories into 2016 Home Decor

For many in the Estrella community, 2015 was filled with great memories of moments like the Goodyear Lakeside Music Fest, the monthly Farmers Market, regular walks around the lakes, or occasional rambles along the scenic trails. It’s so easy to put pictures of fun memories like these on Facebook, and then forget about them completely. Get your favorite 2015 memories off your Facebook wall and onto your actual walls with this list of fun and creative crafts:

Picture Frame Memory Wreath

This lovely craft works great for indoor or outdoor use, though you’ll want to make sure the outdoor wreath is in an area protected from the elements. This wreath is customizable, so you can design it to match your existing home decor. For example, if you tend to decorate using black photo frames, you can print all the photos in black and white to produce a really cohesive look. If you don’t want to deal with the hassle of choosing between horizontal and vertical photos, you can buy square frames and download images from your Instagram camera roll. Just make sure that before you print all the images, you try printing and framing just one to make sure it fits. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/352125264595341662/

Vacation Memory Photo Map

Does your family like to see the world together? Vacation memory photo maps are the perfect home decor idea for avid travelers. You could end up adding to this decor piece every year, so make sure you leave enough room for it to grow! Depending on where your family likes to travel, you can do a wall decal of the world, one country, or even your own state, and can customize the colors to match your existing decor. To keep it from eventually looking disorganized and jumbled, you might consider an aesthetic theme, like using all black photo frames or sepia-toned photos. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/352125264595341699/

Glowing Photo Luminaries

Memories light up our lives, so there’s no reason why they shouldn’t light up our homes too!  Unlike many crafts that take quite a few tries to get right, these photo luminaries are surprisingly easy to make -- you can make several in less than hour! When choosing the vellum on which you will print the photos, make sure you choose the translucent type that is made for photo printing, as it’s sold in a wide array of colors and for various uses. You can usually find available at most craft stores. These luminaries make great conversation pieces at parties, and you can leave up all year long. They also make darling gifts for weddings, birthdays and any holiday. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/352125264595341762/

Vintage Frame Photo Display

Clear the fridge of photo clutter with this vintage frame photo display. This piece is a nice alternative as you can easily transition in new photos over the course of the year. And you can even hang other items in the frame like show tickets, birthday cards and wedding announcements, to preserve those fun memories. If you end up changing your decor colors someday, you can give this frame a fresh coat of paint and keep right on using it. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/352125264595342542/

Memory Shadow Box

Sometimes, a photo on its own just doesn’t do a memory justice. That’s where the shadow box comes in handy. It lets you combine as many items as you want to help you remember what made an experience or trip worthwhile: the wristband from your favorite band’s concert, the shell from the beach where you watched the sunset, or map of the subway that kept you from getting hopelessly lost. With the shadow box, you can display them all. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/352125264595342560/
