Strides for CJD 5K

Strides for CJD honors families affected by Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. On Saturday, October 1, 2016, supporters will run/walk around the scenic North Lake in Estrella, joining others across the country to help make a difference in the annual Strides for CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease) 5K Event. Estrella will be one of nine event locations hosted across the nation. The event is being spearheaded by Corby W. Foster, General Manager of the Golf Club of Estrella who has personally felt the impact of CJD, losing his father, grandfather and two uncles to the disease.

“Currently there is no known cure for the invariably fatal brain disorder and it is so rare, most people have never heard of it,” said Foster. “We will do whatever we can to join the fight in hopes of gaining answers, creating awareness and in the long term, a cure.”

CJD is a rare neurodegenerative disorder that is unfailingly terminal. Presently, there is no treatment or known cure for CJD. The fatal brain disorder results in approximately 300 new cases a year in the United States. Eighty-five percent of the cases are sporadic, with no known cause for the occurrence of the disease.

The event will be a time to honor those who were loved and lost and to provide a community of support for current patients and those affected by Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Proceeds of the event will help fund advocacy, education, research, and support for those dealing with the difficult disease. The event will be open to the public.
