Resident Spotlight: Estrella Mountain Elementary School Principal – Sharon Marine

For the past 17 years Estrella has been home to resident and school principal, Sharon Marine, her husband and their three Yorkshire Terriers. Marine is the Estrella Mountain Elementary School Principal, whose vast experience in education includes 13 years of teaching. From teaching, Marine moved to the administrative side and became the assistant principal at Freedom Elementary before returning to Estrella as principal, a position she has now held for six years.

During her time at Estrella Mountain Elementary, Marine has watched her students grow, mature and become responsible citizens. It is one of the things that cause her to cherish her time living and working in such a tight-knit community.  And while the community has grown significantly, she still feels that it has retained its hometown feel.

“Estrella has a wonderful family atmosphere that we enjoy so much,” said Marine. “Being in a neighborhood where I can go for leisurely walks with my husband, and have it be both friendly and safe is truly one of the most important reasons that we have lived here so long.”

Esteemed principal and resident, caring wife…and Olympic athlete? That’s right, Marine spends her summers playing competitive softball and took her skills to the 2015 National Senior Games presented by the United States Olympics Committee. Marine represented Team Arizona in the Senior Games last July in Minnesota. Her active lifestyle, a job that always keeps her on her toes and years of practice have been the ultimate preparation for the Olympics. Marine is a true Estrella hero who will represent the community with pride.
