Start planning your holiday fun

‘Tis the season for gingerbread lattes, holiday shopping and family gatherings.  With all the busyness this time of year, you might look up one day and realize you missed a whole bunch of fun ways to celebrate the season with your friends and loved ones simply because you forgot to put them on the calendar.

So spice up your November and December by calendaring these fun holiday events, all within a short drive of our community:

Holiday Tree Lighting at the Wigwam Resort, Nov. 27

Kick off the holiday season with Wigwam Resort’s annual holiday tree lighting. This free event will feature live music, a special visitor from the North Pole, scrumptious cookies (and the perfect photo op for your family’s holiday newsletter or greeting card). No reservations are required to attend. For more information about this event and other holiday festivities at the Wigwam, please visit http://wigwamarizona.com/.

The 21st Annual Glendale Glitters Spectacular Weekend, Nov. 27-28

We might not have snow in the Phoenix area, but our holiday décor can light up the night sky with the best of them. There will be tons of things to enjoy at this free event —1.5 million twinkle lights, holiday entertainment, food, crafts, a children's wonderland, horse-drawn carriage rides and a special lighting ceremony. The Spectacular will run both nights from 5-10 p.m. at Murphy Park in Glendale. For more information and an event schedule, please visit http://www.glendaleaz.com/events/.

A Christmas Carol, Nov. 27-Dec. 27

What holiday season would be complete without a visit from money-hungry Ebenezer Scrooge? You can enjoy this beautiful Broadway adaptation of Charles Dickens’ most well-known story at the Arizona Broadway Theater in Peoria. The show is expected to sell out fast, so if you think you want to go, don’t procrastinate buying your tickets. Ornament Marketplace, Nov. 27-29

Do you love getting new ornaments for your tree or to give away as gifts? A great place to find unique ornaments is the Ornament Marketplace, a free Heard Museum event in Phoenix that will feature hundreds of Native-themed, hand-crafted ornaments by American Indian artists. They’ll be selling ornaments in a wide variety of styles, media and colors, so you’re sure to find a unique addition to your collection.
