Summer Design Trends by guest blogger, Aundrea Boyd, Shea Homes Design Center
As the temperature goes up and the A/C goes down, summer is finally upon us here in Phoenix. The summer season may be packed with work, family and vacations, but let your house be what you look forward to coming home to every day. Whether you’re looking for a fresh idea or a total interior design remodel, we have you covered. These five summer design trends are extremely popular this season with our customers in the Shea Homes Design Center.
Cooler Paint Colors
A fresh coat of paint is a great way to change up the look of any room. Although many of us don’t realize it, the color of a room has the ability to influence our day-to-day mood, so a cooler paint choice is something to seriously consider. Cooler paint colors have a calming, tranquil effect, making it a great choice for busy rooms such as family rooms or entry ways.
A gray color palette, whether on your walls or the accessories in your living room, is the new “in” color for 2015. Gray is a part of the neutral family, making it classic and easy to implement into almost any room. On the flip side, this cool tone is edgy enough to spice up any living space. There are few colors that can radiate such diversity.
Light Cabinets with Light Countertops
Light cabinets with lightly colored countertops are a huge trend -- and an excellent way to brighten up the look of any kitchen. The light colored surface reflects light giving the room an illuminated appearance, whether or not you have much natural light available. Your kitchen is one of the most used rooms in a home, so maximize your enjoyment by making it bright and airy.
Subway tile continues to be one of this season’s hottest design trends. It’s been a huge hit in our kitchens as a backsplash, and is also being installed in plenty of bathrooms and laundry rooms. Subway tile is easy to clean, easy to install and works equally well with a modern or classic look. Choose from a wide range of sizes, colors, and textures to get the perfect look for your home.
Wood-look tile is one of our favorite design features for anyone who loves both the elegance of wood flooring and the durability of tile. This natural looking wood grain tile is made out of either ceramic or porcelain, and is a low-maintenance choice for any area -- from a powder room to a formal dining room. Wood-look tile is a budget-friendly alternative to wood flooring, and its durability is a perfect match for families with pets and kids.
