Root for the Home Team! – Year-round Professional Sports

Arizona is a sports fan’s dream! Home to a major league team in all four major sports. Each stadium or arena is just a short drive from any of the many great neighborhoods in Estrella.

Baseball season is in full-swing and if you’re a fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chase field is a perfect place to enjoy a day at the ballpark. Nationally known for its swimming pool in the outfield, Chase field was also the first stadium in the U.S. with a retractable roof over a natural-grass playing surface. With easy access off the I-10 and lots of parking choices, it’s a great option for baseball fans.

If hockey is more your speed, head up the road to Gila River Arena in Glendale to see the Arizona Coyotes take the ice. Formerly the Winnipeg Jets, the Coyotes began calling the Valley of the Sun home in 1996.  Along with the ultimate goal of winning the coveted Stanley Cup, the Coyotes are active in the community, holding community events across the Valley all year long.

More of a football fan? Walk just up the street from the hockey arena to check out the Arizona Cardinals.  Unlike any other stadium around, the retractable roof and field creates an atmosphere for any occasion. When the Cardinals are home fans known as the “bird gang,” fill the stadium and surrounding restaurants and venues, creating a unique and electric environment.  Falling just one game short of making the Super Bowl last season, fans are looking forward to another great season in 2016.

If you’re going through NFL withdrawal, now is your time to experience the exciting phenomenon that is Arena Football. The Arizona Rattlers play downtown at the Talking Stick Resort Arena and have won five Arena Bowl Championships. Often more affordable than “major” sporting events, Arena Football is interactive and a great family outing.

If you bleed orange and purple, Talking Stick Resort Arena is also the place to cheer on the Phoenix Suns. The first major professional sports franchise in Phoenix, many people say the Valley is truly a “basketball town.” Despite less than stellar results in recent years, fans continue to flock to support their Suns. While checking out the games, be sure to enjoy the Suns Gorilla. One of the most recognizable mascots in the NBA.

The Valley is not just home to the NBA, it’s also home to the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury.  The 2014 WNBA Champions also play at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix.  The team boasts some of the most recognizable women in the sport, including Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi.  Both have also been named to the 2016 U.S. Olympic team.

The Valley is also home to the LPGA’s Founder’s Cup tournament and the world-famous Waste Management Phoenix Open.  Estrella is just a short distance in any direction from any sporting event your heart desires.
