4 Easy Ways to Update Your Patio & Yard
Tuesday, February 16, 2016
You can’t beat Arizona weather. We have ample opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors – Estrella residents can take advantage of the many hiking and biking trails, its' 72 acres of lakes and multiple community parks – or just relaxing in the comfort of their own back yard. Need a few ideas on how to spruce up your patio and yard? Here are four easy tips.
Get to planting.
Plants and flowers make for a beautiful and calming atmosphere, early fall and spring are prime planting seasons. Give plants as much time as possible to establish strong roots before the temperatures rise.
Choose wisely. For lasting blooms, select plants hearty enough to withstand Arizona’s strong sun and summer heat. Petunias and Lantana bushes are common sights around the Valley, and one of our favorites, Vinca flowers, can tolerate a wide variety of weather conditions and still look great. The “Weekend Gardener” offers a great list of high-heat flowers and more planting tips.
Create a cute and cozy seating area.
Think of your outdoor space as an extension of your living area. One trend for 2016 is to incorporate the same color scheme from your interior design into your patio furnishings. A few pops of color can go a long way in bringing a space to life – vibrant seat cushions or throw pillows add a cozy, colorful touch.
Bug repellant candles can do double duty acting as colorful décor and a functional item. Citronella candles can be found just about anywhere, or make one yourself using this easy tutorial from PopSugar.
If you are into DIY, Lowes offers a variety of creative do-it-yourself outdoor seating projects. The Adirondack-inspired chairs are a great option as they provide a classic look that can be painted to match any color scheme.
Let the light shine.
Decorative lighting goes a long way to making a patio or outdoor space look like a landscape masterpiece. Lanterns, torches and garden lights provide the finishing touch to illuminate your beautiful patio and outdoor space. For easy instillation, we recommend going with battery operated or solar powered options when available. If you are looking for something a little more creative, HouseLogic offers a unique way to “upcycle” mason jars and a few strings of lights into a unique light fixture.
Grill it up!
Anytime is an ideal time to fire up the grill in Arizona. A rolling grill cart is a convenient space for outdoor cooking accessories, plates and cold drinks. Home Depot offers a step-by-step guide to building a stylish cart that will add form and function to your collection of patio furniture.
A little sprucing goes a long way and before you know it, your outdoor space will be in tip top shape for hosting a get-together with your neighbors or enjoying relaxed evenings alone.
