Newland Communities announced complete builder compliance at weekend Earth Day celebration attended by more than 3,000 visitors
Newland Communities is proud to announce that all builders within Montecito at Estrella are now Energy Star certified. All homes built within Estrella’s newest community will include a variety of energy efficient features that improve home quality, while lowering energy demand and reducing air pollution.
“Newland Communities has made a commitment to do our part in helping improve the environment we live in,” said Steven Pritulsky, senior vice president of operations at Estrella. “Attaining Energy Star certification for our Montecito builders is a big step in our long-term plan to position Estrella as a leading sustainable community.”
To attain Energy Star certification, home builders must meet guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are at least 15 percent more energy efficient than standard homes. Energy Star homes have a variety of design features including effective insulation, high-performance windows, tight construction and duct systems, efficient heating and cooling equipment. Additionally, they can be outfitted with Energy Star products such as lighting fixtures, ventilation fans and appliances.
Energy Star certified builders within Montecito include Ashton Woods Homes, David Weekley Homes, Nicholas Homes, Rosewood Homes and Taylor Morrison.
Furthering its commitment to energy conservation, Newland Communities has begun using the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Ratings System™ for future projects at Estrella. LEED certification denotes the design, construction and operation of high performance green building. Estrella’s newest residents club, The Presidio at Montecito, along with portions of the community’s new commercial sites will be built to LEED standards.
Additionally, Newland Communities is working with William Ryan Homes to create a new energy efficient home featuring all the latest green technologies. When complete, this “green” home will not only be an example of extreme energy efficiency, but also a home option for Estrella buyers.
To celebrate Earth Day, Estrella hosted a celebration at the Estrella Lakeside Amphitheater on Saturday, April 19. More than 3,000 guests and residents attended the event, which included children’s activities, demonstrations by TV’s The Garden Guy, tasty seasonal treats, live entertainment and a Toyota Prius giveaway.
