Newland Communities Delivers Bashas’ Grocery Store to Estrella

Estrella celebrated the groundbreaking of Mountain Ranch Marketplace on June 16, 2008.  Mountain Ranch Marketplace, one of Estrella’s first major retail centers totaling 170,000-square-feet, will be located on the northwest corner of Estrella Parkway and Elliot Road and will be anchored by a 50,000-square-foot Bashas’ Supermarket. 

“Newland has aggressively pursued commercial opportunities over the past two years, and we are confident that Mountain Ranch Marketplace will bring outstanding new retail amenities to the community of Estrella,” said Steven Pritulsky, senior vice president of operations for Newland’s Phoenix Division. “The Newland/Kitchell venture is delivering on our commitment to provide needed retail services to our residents, and we were excited to commemorate this important milestone at the groundbreaking ceremony.”

While the new Bashas’ store and other retail amenities are scheduled to open to the public in fall 2009, residents are already starting to count down the days until they will have the marketplace in their own backyard.

Newland Communities formed a partnership last year with Kitchell Corporation to develop and build Mountain Ranch Marketplace in Estrella.  In addition to Bashas’, a number of retailers have expressed a strong interest in Mountain Ranch Marketplace including a day-care center, a bank, a drugstore, various restaurants, and a hardware store.

“Mountain Ranch Marketplace is one of the few grocery/drugstore-anchored neighborhood shopping centers that will open in metropolitan Phoenix in 2009,” said Chad Schubert, director of development for Kitchell Corporation. “Newland and Kitchell are known for creating high-quality projects, and I believe residents will be very proud of this shopping center.”

According to Schubert, the shopping center is one of few in the metro area to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) core and shell certification.
Among the many sustainable elements incorporated into the design are solar technologies, low-flow water fixtures and low-water-use landscaping; low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs); and preferred parking spaces for fuel-efficient vehicles. Construction debris will also be recycled.
