Estrella Celebrates Its 21st Birthday

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (June 30, 2009) – On June 9, 2009, the master-planned community Estrella celebrated its 21st anniversary. Since 1988, Estrella has grown into a vibrant new home community with over 3,500 homes and about 10,000 residents.  Estrella’s history includes many key development milestones: 1988 – Estrella celebrates its Grand Opening of the new home community with a three-day event (June 9-12) which included lakeside activities and a concert by the Phoenix Symphony. In September the community’s first K-8 school, Estrella Mountain Elementary opened. 1990 - Construction was completed on the I-10 freeway, allowing Estrella residents greater accessibility to employment opportunities and entertainment.  1999 - The Golf Club of Estrella, Estrella’s 18-hole, par 72, Nicklaus Design golf course opened.2001 - Estrella Foothills High School opened and a large expanse of the Sonoran Desert, including the land comprising Estrella, was declared a national monument by President Bill Clinton.  2003 - Westar Elementary School opened, the same year that Goodyear’s Estrella Public Safety Facility was established on Estrella Parkway to serve the fire and police protection needs of the expanding community.2005 – Newland Communities purchased Estrella began planning its buildout over several decades.  2007 – Estrella’s community of Montecito celebrated its grand opening and the neighborhood community Intranet,, debuted online.  2008 - Mountain Ranch Marketplace, Estrella’s first retail center, broke ground and the Cotton Lane Bridge was completed, providing an alternate route to Estrella.  In 2009, Estrella launched a re-designed Website, a Facebook page, Estrella Living | Facebook and Twitter profile allowing Estrella residents and visitors a more efficient way to receive information about the community and keep in touch with each other.  Also in 2009, Estrella was voted the “Best Master-Planned Community in Arizona” by Ranking Arizona, marking the fourth consecutive year that Estrella has received this accolade.  The community also welcomed the opening of the Goodyear Ballpark which brought sports entertainment to the community.   This fall, Mountain Ranch Marketplace is scheduled to open, which will provide Estrella residents with more convenient shopping options. “We are so pleased to celebrate this milestone at Estrella,” said Greg Bielli, president of the Western Region of Newland Communities. “It’s a testament to the quality of our home builders, the vast array of amenities we offer our residents, and our truly spectacular setting in the Sonoran Desert Valley.”
