In addition to the 500 acres of parks and open space in the Estrella community, residents are uniquely situated to enjoy all the amenities offered by Estrella Mountain Regional Park, located right next door and linked into the Estrella trail system. Opened in 1954, Estrella Mountain Regional Park was the first regional park in the Maricopa County Park System and is comprised of 19,840 acres of desert and mountain terrain.
The park offers a variety of exceptional hiking, biking, and horse trails, as well as great bird and wildlife watching opportunities with the small ponds and vegetation in the bottom of the Gila River attracting a variety of species. The park’s Nature Center even offers live animal displays and “Critter Feeding” events. Guests can explore the park on their own or on one of the many ranger-guided hikes and tours.
For those seeking true wild west adventures, Corral West operates horseback rides and events out of Estrella Mountain Regional Park. The company offers trail rides, festivals, a variety of arena events, youth activities, and cowboy cookouts. During rides, Corral West’s experienced guides will point out local flora and fauna and discuss the rich Native American history of the area. Cowboy cookouts are hosted every Thursday and Saturday nights and include a horse drawn wagon ride, old-fashioned hospitality, entertainment, a blazing campfire, and good food. Call 623-882-3808 for more information about Corral West or to reserve your space at the next cookout.
Estrella Mountain Regional Park is open 365 days a year, 6am to 8pm, Sunday through Thursday, and 6am to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Visit www.maricopa.gov/parks for more information.
